![]() They originally retailed for 350$ though, so that explains it a lot better. I've paid around 180 Euro, and in comparison to IEM's in the same price range (180 Euro), they are by far the best I heard. Because of their fit and how they go inside your ear and how they look while wearing them, they are perfect for home listening, especially because of the open-back design, and also because they need quite some power, so u probably wanna use them with an Amplifier. You won't get around buying a cable or buying the MMCX Adapter with it. Of course, the accessories with it are bad, same with the cable. ![]() Overall, they are extremely impressive for the money, even after all this time. The low end is a bit too recessed for my taste, but I've noticed when covering the open back grill, the low end extends heavily (too much, in fact) The sound signature definitely is bright neutral. Through its open back design and huge driver, there's more room than on any in ear I've tried so far. What's instantly noticeable is the soundstage. I'm not the best with explaining what I hear and putting it into text, so I'll keep it short. The connector is also proprietary, there are a few cables available, but there's thankfully a MMCX adapter you can get for 30$ that allows you to use all MMXC Cables. With 1.6m it's pretty long, additionally it's just all plastic and tingly, a true pain to use. The cable is pretty bad, and will be the first thing I'll be replacing. I don't recommend using these in public as long as u don't like weird stares. That's why they're named ST, because you can really only use them in a Studio. They also fit extremely weird, not being mirrored left and right, because they just go straight into your ear like an Etymotic. I would generally say it's rather an Earphone, the driver is one of the biggest for IEM's out there. Featuring a 16mm Dynamic Driver, the IEM itself is still not super huge. There's a small grill at the back of the driver that's open, though the sound barely leaks. ![]() You get 3 Tips, the cable, and a pouch/case. ST stands for Studio, thus you're not getting much in accessories. ![]() These were only released in Japan, though there has been an US Version called MDR-7550 that's essentially the same, but these have been directly imported from Amazon Japan. These are the Sony MDR EX-800ST, which are around 9 years old by now and spoiler, still hold up great against current mid-range IEM's. ![]()
